What is Force Sensing Resistor and Electronics Projects

Force Sensing Resistors are also known
as Force Sensitive Resistors or Force Sensors
or simply (FSR). They are low-cost, easy-to-use
sensors specifically designed to detect physical pressure,
compression, and weight.

You will find them in mobile phones, portable gaming
devices, and many more portable electronic devices.

While these sensors are great for measuring pressure,
they aren't great at determining how many
pounds of weight they are.
However, if you just want to know
"if the sensor has been squeezed or pressed
and how much", they are a good choice for your next touch
sensing project.

FSR Overviews

The technology used in ( FSRs ) has been patented
 by Interlink Electronics
which has been operating since 1985.
The most common types of( FSRs )
that you will easily find are the Interlink
 (FSR-402) and (FSR-406).

Structure of FSR

The (FSR) is nothing more than a variable resistors
whose resistance varies as pressure is applied
on detection area.
It is a composed of several thin flexible
type layers. The more it is pressed, the
more the resistive (carbon) elements touch
the conductive traces and this reduces
the resistance

Shapes and Sizes

There are a varieties of (FSR) options , (FSR) features Depend on a size,

shape, and sensing range .

Most of (FSRs) have a circular or rectangular shape sensing area. Square Shape  (FSRs) are good for a broad-area sense, And small circular shape sensors provide a greater accuracy to the sensing field.

Law of Resistance

As we said, (FSR) is a basically resistor that changes its resistance depend on how much pressure it has been applied to.(FSR). When no pressure on the sensor looks like an infinite resistance open circuit. The more hardly you press the sensor head (Pressure point) it decrease the resistance between the two terminals pins. but when you remove the pressure, it will return to its original value.

Components List

1 : BC547 NPN Transistor

2 : Resistor 1K

3 : Resistor 10K

4 : Force Sensing Resistor (FSR) 5KG Model (DF9-40)

5 : Buzzer 3 Volt

6 : 3.7 Volt Battery

Result

When you Press the FSR Pressure Sensing

Area the Buzzer Beep You can Easily

Change Pressure Value Changing the

Resistors Values .

This Circuit Good for Weight Detection

or As pressure Sensr Alarm

 How It Works

When Pressure applied on the Force Sensing Resistor (FSR) .The Resistance

Value of FSR is Decreased  the more Voltage pass to base of Transistor

Cause the Transistor On . Transistor On and Pass the Emittor - current to Collector of Transistor . The Buzzer - terminal Receive current and Beeping.

Transistor Switching with Led

Circuit Diagram

Follow The Circuit Diagram And Make this Circuit

Components List

1 : BC547 NPN Transistor

2 : Resistor 100 ohms

3 : Resistor 39K

4 : Force Sensing Resistor (FSR) 5KG Model (DF9-40)

5 : LED 3 Volt

6 : 3.7 Volt Battery

 Results

The LED always on in Circuit When you Press the

Pressure point of FSR . The LED Turn OFF

The Pressure Value Change if you change the Resistors

Values

How Its Works

When Pressure applied on FSR Pressure Point .The Resistance Value Decreased and cause the Transistor Base voltages Low . Because of Low voltage Transistor Not On and Collector no Receive Current. LED not Receive Current and not Glow .
